Beadly Support
Help for Beadly (حبّات), the prayer beads counter for Android and iPhone.
Need help or found a problem? Email support@tecages.com. We usually reply within a few days.
If something went wrong in the app, the quickest way is Settings › Help › Send error report. It opens your email app with the error log attached, so we can see what happened. You see everything before you send it.
Counting
How do I count?
Tap anywhere on the large counter. Each tap adds one, with a light vibration. The bar under the count shows how many are left to your goal.
How do I choose another dhikr, or add my own?
Open the Dhikr tab. Tap a phrase to count it. Tap + to add your own, in any language, with an optional transliteration, meaning and goal (0 means no goal).
What does Reset do?
The gold Reset button sets today's count for the chosen dhikr back to 0. It asks first, and right after a reset you can tap Undo. Other days and other phrases are not changed. Tapped one too many? The −1 button next to Reset takes one off.
Why did my count go back to 0?
Counts are kept for each day. At midnight a new day starts at 0. Earlier days are kept and shown in the Progress tab.
How do I clear my progress and start again?
To clear one phrase's history, delete that phrase in the Dhikr tab. To start again completely, tap Delete all in the Dhikr tab: it asks first, then deletes every phrase with all its counts and progress. Your settings are kept. It cannot be undone. Then add your own phrases again, or pick them from Popular dhikr.
Auto count
How does auto count work?
Tap the ▶ button in the top-right corner of the counter. The first time, Beadly asks you to say the dhikr 3 times at your usual pace and tap after each one. It then counts one at that pace, with a light vibration, while you keep saying it.
How do I pause it or change the pace?
Tap anywhere on the counter to pause. To measure your pace again, hold the ▶ button.
Why did auto count stop?
It stops by itself when you reach your goal, reset, choose another dhikr, open another tab or Settings, or leave the app. This keeps it from counting when you are not saying the dhikr. The screen stays on only while it runs.
Qibla
How do I find the Qibla?
Open the menu at the top of the counter and choose Qibla. Hold your phone flat and turn until the Kaaba mark reaches the top. When you face the Qibla, the ring turns green and the phone gives a short vibration.
The compass seems wrong or keeps moving.
- If Beadly asks, move your phone in a figure 8 a few times to calibrate the compass.
- Move away from metal, magnets, speakers, cars and other phones. Magnetic phone cases and car holders disturb every compass.
- Hold the phone flat, or upright like a camera.
My phone has no GPS, or I don't want to share my location.
Tap Choose city and pick your city from the list. It works offline. Your location, if you allow it, is used only on your phone.
My phone has no compass.
Beadly then uses the sun: point the top of your phone at the sun, and the Kaaba mark shows the Qibla. At night it tells you how far to turn from north.
Does the Qibla screen use a lot of battery?
No. Beadly reads your location once and uses the compass only while the Qibla screen is open. Both stop when you leave it.
Goal alert and sounds
How do I change what happens at my goal?
Tap the goal alert button on the counter (next to the moon button; shown for a dhikr with a goal) to switch between vibration, sound and vibration, sound only, and silent. More choices, such as the sound, are in Settings.
I don't hear the goal sound.
- Check that the goal alert uses sound (the goal alert button on the counter, next to the moon button).
- The sound plays like a notification: it follows your phone's notification volume and is silent when the phone is on silent or Do Not Disturb.
The goal notification does not appear.
Turn on Goal notification in Settings. If you refused the permission before, allow notifications for Beadly in your phone's settings (Settings › Apps › Beadly › Notifications).
Your data
Where is my data kept? Is it backed up?
Everything is saved on your phone only. Beadly has no account and no server. If your phone's own backup is on (Google backup on Android, iCloud on iPhone), the phone may include Beadly's data in that backup, and restore it on a new phone with the same account.
If I uninstall the app, is my data lost?
Yes. Uninstalling deletes Beadly's data from the phone, unless it is restored from your phone's backup. Updates keep your data: you never need to uninstall to update.
Is my data private?
Yes. We don't collect, sell or share it. See the privacy policy.
Other
How do I save battery while counting?
Use the dark screen (the moon button on the counter). The screen goes black and every tap still counts. Hold your finger down, or press Back, to leave.
How do I change the language or colours?
Open Settings (the menu at the top of the counter). You can choose Arabic or English, the app colour and the counter background. In Arabic you can also choose the month names: يناير… أكتوبر, or كانون الثاني… تشرين الأول.
How do I update the app?
Beadly tells you when a new version is in the store and offers an Update button. You can also update from Google Play or the App Store. To see what changed, open Settings › Help › What's new.
